What is a legacy gift?

A promise for the future, made today.

A planned (or “legacy”) gift is one you arrange now that benefits the Hartland Area Project in the future — most often through your will or by naming HAP as a beneficiary. It costs nothing during your lifetime, and you can change your plans at any time.

Most common

A gift in your will

Leave HAP a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or whatever remains after you’ve provided for loved ones. Your attorney adds a sentence or two to your will or trust.

Often easiest

A beneficiary designation

Name HAP as a beneficiary of a retirement account (IRA / 401(k)), a life-insurance policy, or a bank or brokerage account. Usually just a simple form from your provider — no attorney needed.

For advisors

Trusts & gift annuities

Charitable remainder trusts and gift annuities can provide income during your lifetime and a gift afterward. We’re glad to work with you and your advisor.

For your attorney

Suggested bequest language.

If you’d like to include the Hartland Area Project in your will or trust, you or your attorney can use language like this:

“I give and bequeath to Hartland Area Project, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization (Tax ID / EIN 82-5418397), the sum of $________ (or ____% of my estate, or the rest and residue of my estate) to be used for its general charitable purposes.”

You can also direct your gift to a specific fund — scholarships, health & welfare, education & culture, or economic development.

Let us know

Tell us about your intentions.

Thinking about a legacy gift, or have you already included us? Let us know — confidentially. It helps us plan, lets us thank you, and we can answer any questions. There’s no obligation, and nothing is binding.

  • Completely confidential — never posted publicly
  • No payment, no commitment
  • Optional: ask for a private conversation

Held in confidence and not posted anywhere. A letter of intent is non-binding — you can change your plans at any time. Please consult your own attorney or advisor; HAP doesn’t provide legal or tax advice.

“Each must do his part.”

A legacy gift is one of the most lasting ways to do yours — strengthening Hartland for the neighbors who come after us.
